Kawasaki Motors has announced a strategic partnership with Dronamics to advance engine technology for unmanned aviation. The collaboration centres on developing Kawasaki’s aero piston engines and integrating them into Black Swan, Dronamics’ flagship civilian unmanned cargo aircraft.
The Black Swan is designed to carry 350 kilograms of cargo over distances of up to 2,500 kilometres. By combining their expertise, the two companies aim to raise performance and efficiency standards in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Kawasaki brings decades of experience in engine design and innovation from its global powersports and engine production background. Dronamics contributes deep knowledge in UAV design, manufacturing, and operations.
The partnership will span the full lifecycle of engine development and deployment. It will include joint research and development, integration engineering, flight testing, and performance validation on the Black Swan platform. The goal is to create a new benchmark in aviation propulsion systems for unmanned cargo aircraft.
Konstantin Rangelov, Co-Founder and CTO of Dronamics, highlighted the significance of the partnership: “This strategic partnership with Kawasaki Motors marks a significant step forward in unmanned aviation technology. As an R&D partner, we are more than adopting Kawasaki Motors’ advanced aero piston engines – we are collaborating to shape the future of aircraft performance.”
He added that Kawasaki’s choice of the Black Swan platform reflects the strong technological foundation Dronamics has built. It also signals Kawasaki’s renewed focus on aviation propulsion.
This long-term collaboration is expected to accelerate the commercial readiness of advanced UAV propulsion systems. It positions both companies to lead innovation in sustainable and efficient unmanned cargo aviation, while reinforcing the Black Swan’s potential as a transformative solution for long-distance cargo delivery.
