Avincis wins seven-year contract to operate Italy’s firefighting Canadair fleet

Avincis, a global leader in emergency aerial services and Europe's largest provider, has secured a seven-year contract to operate Italy's fleet of 18 Canadair CL-415 aircraft.

With over 20 years of experience in firefighting services in Italy, Avincis will continue managing the world's largest fleet of Canadairs CL-415s , which are owned by the Italian fire brigade. This fleet plays a crucial role in ensuring rapid and effective responses to emergencies.

Avincis operates more than 180 bases across Europe, Africa and South America, with a fleet of around 220 aircraft and a team of over 2,400 professionals. Global operations, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) activities are managed from its headquarters in Lisbon, Portugal. In Italy, Avincis' fixed wing division operates from three permanent and three seasonal bases, with the ability to activate additional temporary bases as required.

Italy's active participation in RescEU, the European civil protection mechanism, requires the Avincis team to deploy the Italian Canadairs within 24 hours of activation, wherever they are needed. Recent missions have seen the fleet deployed to Portugal, Greece and Albania.

The availability of high-quality maintenance centres in Ciampino, Lamezia, Genoa, Olbia, Trapani and Naples ensures safe and efficient operations. The maintenance team includes 250 employees, more than 100 of whom are pilots, alongside a similar number of specialised technicians.

This contract strengthens Avincis' role in ensuring aviation safety in Italy, further solidifying its position as a key strategic partner for governments and other clients relying on the company's safe, reliable, and efficient services in times of need.
