Air Arabia Group has selected Honeywell to supply its 131-9A auxiliary power units (APUs) for the airline's existing order of 120 A320neo-family aircraft. The agreement between Honeywell and Air Arabia includes comprehensive maintenance support for the APUs, ensuring improved dispatch reliability, increased fleet availability, enhanced fuel efficiency and reduced unplanned maintenance costs across the carrier's fleet.
An APU is a vital component of an aircraft, providing electrical power and air conditioning while the plane is on the ground. It ensures passenger comfort and supplies air for the main engines before they are started.
Khaled Hashem, President of Honeywell Middle East and Africa, highlighted that Honeywell's APUs meet the growing demand for reliable components with better environmental performance. He emphasised that this latest milestone in the company's decade-long partnership with Air Arabia underscores Honeywell's commitment to delivering cutting-edge technology and innovation to the region's leading carriers.
The integration of the 131-9A APUs will enable Air Arabia to implement Honeywell's high-efficiency mode (HEM) upgrade, which offers a 1-2% improvement in fuel efficiency and a reduction of up to 22 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per APU annually. The HEM upgrade supports Air Arabia's focus on sustainability, as the MENA region builds on the commitments from COP28.
Honeywell's APUs are part of a broad range of technologies that are shaping the future of aviation, one of the three global megatrends that Honeywell's portfolio addresses.
