Airbus deliveries up 8% and remains world's leading planemaker for fourth year

Europe's Airbus has retained its top spot for the fourth year running as the world's biggest jet manufacturer having delivered 663 jets throughout 2022, a rise of 8% when compared to 2021 deliveries.

Airbus also managed to secure orders for 1,078 new jets throughout the year, which resulted in a net total of 820 after cancellations. On the other side of the Atlantic, Boeing managed to deliver 480 aircraft, while securing orders for 935 aircraft resulting in net orders for 774 aircraft after cancellations.

Airbus had previously abandoned its target of delivering “around 700” aircraft as a direct consequence of supply chain issues, already lowered from an original target of “around 720 aircraft”. Airbus Chief Executive Guillaume Faury pointed the finger for the shortfall at the “complexity of the operating environment” while still confirming that Airbus would continue to ramp up production. “We continue our ramp-up trajectory to deliver on our backlog,” he said in a statement.

For the first time since 2017 the combined sales of both Airbus and Boeing topped the 2,000-unit mark, excluding cancellations.
