Somon Air takes delivery of first 737 MAX

Somon Air has taken delivery of its first Boeing 737-8, becoming the first airline in Tajikistan to operate the 737 MAX as it advances its fleet modernisation and network expansion plans.

The aircraft is the first of two 737-8s being leased from Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE). It will operate short- and medium-haul services across Central Asia, Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

The new aircraft forms a key part of Somon Air’s fleet renewal strategy, providing greater range and improved operating economics than previous-generation models. The airline said the 737-8 will support planned route expansion, including future services to London, Beijing and Guangzhou.

Depending on configuration, the 737-8 can accommodate up to 210 passengers and has a range of up to 3,500 nautical miles (6,480 km).

Boeing said the 737 MAX reduces fuel consumption and carbon emissions by 20% compared with the aircraft it replaces, supporting Somon Air’s sustainability and fleet modernisation objectives.
