Lufthansa Technik takes on 209 new trainees after two-year hiatus

Lufthansa Technik AG has kick-started its training program after a two-year break as a direct result of the COVID-19 pandemic. 186 of the recruits will commence their apprenticeships at German locations, while a further 23 recruits are ‘dual students’ who are combining a degree course with practical applications. 209 new training positions or places to study, 122 are directly attributable to Lufthansa Technik AG, 36 for the first time to the technical operations of Lufthansa Airlines and the remainder to the companies of the Lufthansa Technik Group.

“We need reinforcements for the decade ahead; mechanics and engineers for the production divisions, we need young staff members for logistics and also the commercial sector,” says Barbara Koerner, Head of Training & Dual Studies at Lufthansa Technik. “We are competing with many other companies that are preparing for the changes brought about by the upcoming generation change and increasing digitization. Lufthansa Technik has chosen to implement a range of different methods to attract new recruits, including printed and online advertising, using social media channels, as well as advertising in public transport and fast-food outlets in cities such as Hamburg and Frankfurt. While the company will maintain a presence at trade fairs, it will also be targeting potential recruits through cooperation projects with schools and universities.”
